KPMG's Audit Committee Institute

In recognition of the challenges that Audit Committees
face in fully carrying out their responsibilities, in 1999 in the USA, KPMG
launched the Audit Committee Institute - ACI, a space which fosters the exchange
of information and development of best practices. It is recognized as being
of high value and a promoter of benefits for members of Audit Committees and
for company top management.
ACI's main mission is to maintain communication
with members of Audit Committees, in order to improve their knowledge, commitment
and capacity for implementing processes and effective Audit Committees.
ACI is totally sponsored by KPMG International
and accomplishes its mission based on learning, emphasizing during the interactions,
the main questions and concerns of Audit Committees, Fiscal Councils and Supervisory
Boards, in their presentation and disclosure of financial reports. Listening
to the persons involved in these committees, aiming at identifying the most
important themes and encouraging continuous dialogue between all the participants
in the process of presentation and disclosure of financial reports, are parts
of the dynamics that compose such interaction.
For these dynamics to become even more effective
a series of round tables, which are highly interactive with the Audit Committees,
is also organized; continuous research that helps to obtain insights into
current questions is carried out; and information of maximum interest emanating
from leaders with responsibilities and authority in Audit Committees is published
in the Audit Committee Quarterly periodical and other publications.
IN BRAZIL
In Brazil, ACI will be launched in February 2004
and the first tool to become available is the roundtable. The roundtables
will be quarterly; the other tools will become available during 2004, in accordance
with the needs and interests of the local members.
