SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) is a global non-profit organization active in more than 45 countries and headquartered in the United States. SIFE mobilizes more than 30,000 students across 1,500 universities worldwide to make a difference in their communities.

SIFE is a program that gives KPMG member firms the opportunity to support educational institutions around the world who aim to create responsible business leaders for the future; and though these young leaders make an impact on the communities we work within.

It is also a great avenue for putting our skills to work to gain people engagement, exclusive access to exceptional talent, business networking opportunities and much more.

KPMG has been involved in SIFE since 1996, and has played a pivotal role in helping SIFE to go global. Today, KPMG member firms support SIFE in over 35 countries.

In Brazil, we have been supporting SIFE since 1998. In 2008, six universities from different Brazilian states participated in our initiatives, having mobilized 207 students to engage in developing projects for their communities, directly and indirectly benefitting approximately 12,000 people.

Junior Achievement Project

Junior Achievement is a non-profit organization dedicated to building a bridge between the classroom and the workplace by educating young people to understand business and economics. It is present in Brazil since 1983, where it expanded to reach every Brazilian state and the Federal District. Junior Achievement focuses efforts on teaching primary and second level students up to 16 years of age to value free enterprise and improve the quality of their lives.

The Junior Achievement programs aim to stimulate personal growth, teaching the risks and rewards of entrepreneurship, and to provide better access to the labor market through a unique business and education partnership. KPMG provides financial support to Junior Achievement in Rio de Janeiro (JARJ) since 2002. Starting from 2008 KPMG volunteers have been directly involved in Junior Achievement training programs.

Personal Finance Program: Helps 9th grade students to learn more about their interests and skills, understand career options and the economic benefits of an education, in addition to teaching them about budgeting, personal and family financial management, and the risks associated with incurring debt.

Job Shadow Day Program: Focuses on taking students into the workplace to learn about careers and executive routines.

Prime Minister’s Global Fellowship Program

Organized in Brazil by the British Council, the Prime Minister’s Global Fellowship is a program oriented towards strengthening the skills and self-confidence of young global fellows, giving them an understanding of global citizenship and a well-grounded insight into their potential impact on the economics of a changing world, by giving them a strong foundation in interacting with the major emerging markets of the new global economy; Brazil, India and China.

In July and August 2008, 100 young English students aged 18 and 19 years old, from diverse backgrounds and an entrepreneurial inclination, who are finishing full-time education or apprenticeships, were chosen to be the first global fellows and spend six weeks in China, India or Brazil (21 students) investigating issues of culture, language, education and global enterprise.

In Brazil, these young global fellows were allocated to stay in the cities of Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Fortaleza and São Paulo. In São Paulo they were sent to five sponsor-companies, among them KPMG. Besides learning the Portuguese language, they had the opportunity of spending time in some of the countries’ leading companies and go through its business activities and social responsibility practices.
