Social Responsibility Our corporate activities in social responsibility bring real benefits to our business. We are committed to protecting our environment and supporting the communities and people with whom we work and live. Social Responsibility Commitment to the community Our commitment to the community is declared in our values. The reason for this commitment and for the effort we make is simple: the community provides us with our human resources, partners and staff, enabling us to serve our clients. Involvement with the community, our staff and our clients is the heart of The KPMG Way. The satisfaction of our staff from collaborating with the more needy communities is clearly evident. However, the benefit is far greater for those who offer than for those who receive. From participating in these initiatives, our staff develop leadership skills, team work and communication skills. The greatest benefit is earned from being involved in a variety of situations, facing difficulties and transforming these into gratifying experiences. KPMG Brazil, as a corporation, is proud of the social activities it undertakes. We work to ensure that our organization presents high indices of success and it is recognized for its positive, significant relationships with the communities in which it is involved. Our commitment towards the development of our staff is also a clear demonstration of our commitment towards the community. The investments made in training and education prepare our professionals to offer quality services to our clients and community. “Pequeno Cidadão” (Little Citizen)
This year the Project extended its activities. The Bessan Award was created, in homage of our partner José Marcelo Bessan (in memorian). This award was presented to the student Ariane Pinto Rosa (14), who stood out for her Junior School performance in 2004 and whose High School education will be paid for by KPMG (transport, school material, uniform, etc.). “Make a Difference Day”
They donate not only food, but most importantly, affection and care. This is the profile that “Make a Difference Day” has assumed within KPMG. The movement, initially an annual celebration, has expanded into weekly activities. The fifth edition of “Make a Difference Day” (jointly with Students in Free Enterprise - SIFE), was held in November 2004, presenting a growth of 14% compared to 2003, with the participation of 29 entities helped by our employees, families, suppliers and clients. SIFE For the last seven years KPMG has sponsored SIFE (an international non profit making organization), which trains university teams implementing free initiative educational projects. In 2004, KPMG sponsored the SIFE World Cup (held in Barcelona, Spain), one of the most prestigious interuniversity events held worldwide, involving 37 countries from the five continents and various sponsorships from large corporations. On this occasion, Lino Campion, a KPMG partner and Chairman of SIFE Brazil from 1998 to 2003, received the Global Champions of SIFE Award, dedicated to people who believe and fight for the SIFE cause, who meet challenges and work voluntarily to create a new generation of young leaders, entrepreneurs, working in favor of the communities. Art and Culture The fifth and final edition of the collection of books, Brazilian Cultural Landscape, which presents the five regions of Brazil, was published in 2004. The objective of this project was to present an impressive view of our country, its cultural wealth and natural beauty and to be an illustrative record, promoting the Brazilian culture. The collection started in 2000, presenting the Southeast region, followed by the Central-West, South, North and finally, in 2004, the Northeast region. Cultural Events KPMG's participation in developing Brazilian culture was the drive that united it with two of the most admired institutions in the country: “Sala São Paulo”, the most important concert hall in Latin America and considered to be amongst the top 20 worldwide in terms of acoustics, and the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo (Osesp - São Paulo State Symphonic Orchestra), which has just celebrated 50 years since its foundation. |
